Tetramythos is a certified organic winery in the P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin - i.e., Greek wine appellation) of Pátra, in the northern Peloponnese. It was created in 1999 by local brothers Aristides and Eustatius Stathios Spanos and the evocatively-named winemaker Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos. Roditis is planted all over Greece; here is an entertaining homage to the variety. In the rugged hills of Pátra, the local version roditis alepou (fox-colored roditis, for its ruddy-pink-colored skin) is especially prized. Tetramythos’s 'Roditis Nature' comes from a traditional bush-trained vineyard at 850 meters altitude, planted in 1971. Indigenous fermentation and aging for several months both occurred in stainless steel tanks. The wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered, with very low sulfur additions. It’s stony and vivid, with some citrus and melon. Drink it with octopus, squid, or any other creature of the sea.
