Julien Pinon is a young and dapper eighth-generation winegrower in Vouvray. The wines from him and his father, François, who left us in 2021, are continual reminders of the deep charm of Loire Valley chenin blanc. Farming is certified organic. 'Buvez du Bon Pinon' is Julien’s homage to his great-grandfather Camille, who planted the vines for this wine in 1945 on silex noir (black flint) soils and bottled a wine with this label. Aging was in old Port barrels that Julien’s grandfather Claude bought. 'Sec' means dry, and it is. This is classic Loire chenin blanc, with a compelling yin-yang of texture/fruit with acidity/minerality. It's a great aperitif for acid heads and a great food wine for everyone else. The options include mussels, river fish, and lots of cheeses, whether from the Loire or elsewhere.
