Weingut am Schlipf is in the southern corner of the Black Forest, next to the Rhine River. Claus Schneider’s sons Johannes and Christoph now run things and have converted the vineyards to certified organic farming. Spätburgunder is the German name for pinot noir; 'Lörrach' is the town where the vineyard for this wine is planted. The wine aged for a year, half of it in used barriques and half in stainless steel tanks. This is pinot noir with sappy, dark-ish fruit and leafy and smoky accents. It’s flavorful, balanced, and, like so many German pinot noirs, great quality-price ratio. It will complement lots of fall dishes, including mushrooms or a smoked pork chop.
