Italian Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, grandson of the creator of the cult wine Sassicaia, came to the Río Negro Valley of northern Patagonia in 2004 and started Bodega Chacra. (“Chacra” is an Andean term for a small farm or garden.) Farming is certified organic. The wine tastes of very fresh red berries with a whiff of flowers and spice. There is some fruitiness in the mouth without it being cloying. The finish is dry and refreshing. This will be a delightful aperitivo, especially when the weather warms up again! Or try it with salmon, salade niçoise, or roasted asparagus.
