From Gioia del Colle in northern Puglia, land of the conical limestone-built houses called
trulli (depicted on the wine's label). Primitivo is Italy's Zinfandel, but Calx is the opposite of a stereotypical rich, fruity California Zin. Iron-rich soils with an underlying limestone layer and early picking help preserve freshness and acidity and keep alcohol levels in check (12.5%!). Certified organic farming and indigenous fermentation, all in stainless steel tanks. The wine is light, brambly-fruited, spicy, and totally refreshing. It responds well to a light-to-medium chill. "Calx" = limestone in Latin.
