Post & Vine is the personal, passionate project of Rebekah Wineburg, whose day job is as winemaker for Quintessa. For Post & Vine, she seeks out old-vine, dry-farmed vineyards and makes transparent, elegant wines that are great quality-price ratio. Rebekah also worked at Paul Marcus Wines in the 2000s, after she finished her Viticulture and Enology degree at U.C. Davis; we’re delighted to have her “back” at the shop in this new guise! Carignane (a.k.a. Carignan in France and Mazuelo in Spain) is capable of making serious and seriously delicious wines, but only when the vines are old. These vines, in the Sandy Lane Vineyard in eastern Contra Costa County, are seriously old - planted around 1890 - and ungrafted. 14.5% alcohol. The wine is deep black fruits with earth, mineral, and a touch of floral. It’s gutsy but not heavy, with lively acidity. A slight chill doesn’t hurt. Cassoulet and other hearty stews, poultry, burgers, aged cheeses such as Manchego.
