Ovello is the northern-most vineyard in the village of Barbaresco, and a relatively large southwest- and southeast-facing slope of 20 hectares ranging in elevation from 250 to 320 meters. Soils are calcareous and rich in clay. The extra clay and the cooler microclimate give the Ovello exuberance, fuller body, and firm tannins. 11 different families own and farm the vineyards parcels that go into this wine. Fermentation is in stainless steel, with 32 days of maceration with the skins, followed by aging for 36 months in large oak barrels.
