2019 Morgen Long Chardonnay - Seven Springs Vineyard
In Stock: 0
Seth Morgen Long started his winery in 2016, and in six short years he already has become one of the West Coast’s pre-eminent chardonnay producers. (He is the only Willamette Valley producer who focuses entirely on chardonnay.) Seven Springs Vineyard is in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Morgen Long leases two organically-farmed, southeast-facing blocks of unirrigated Dijon clones growing in the South Block in volcanic basalt soils at 500’-550’. Indigenous fermentation was in stainless steel, followed by a year of aging in French oak (one-third new).
The wine has a salty minerality with just enough sweetness of fruit to complement the deep savoriness, as well as remarkable complexity. This is a wine with a notable reputation for aging, and as the producer notes, “2019 is the most exciting vintage for Willamette Valley Chardonnay in the 50+ year modern history of the region.” 13% alcohol. It’s definitely worth decanting… or 3-5 more years of aging in bottle. Drink it with salt-baked fish or a tapenade.
