Luigi Anania is the proprietor of La Torre in La Sesta, approximately eight kilometers south of Montalcino in the highest altitude section of the Brunello appellation. Farming in limestone, marl, and clay soils is certified organic. Indigenous fermentation in a mix of stainless steel and oak vats, followed by aging for 18 months in large (2500 liter) French oak casks. The wine is bottled unfiltered and 14% alcohol. It’s serious, super-expressive, old school Rosso di Montalcino, with dark cherry fruit, forest floor flavors, and a deep savoriness. This is a terrific partner with steak and other grilled meats, as well as pasta with a dried tomato sauce. Or enjoy it as a vino da meditazione with a wedge of aged Pecorino Toscano from the Market Hall Foods cheese counter.
