Giorgios Diamantakos ia third-generation grower in the foothills of Mount Vermio in Naoussa, Macedonia (Northern Greece). Naoussa is universally acknowledged as the best terroir for xinomavro, which is arguably Greece's most noble red grape variety. It’s often compared to Italy's Nebbiolo or sometimes to Syrah in the Northern Rhône. Diamantakos’s xinomavro is aged for a year in used barrels. 13.5% alcohol. Elegant nose of red and black fruits with olive and liquorice notes. The wine opens up with exposure to air; don’t hesitate to decant it for an hour or so, and drink it in Burgundy stems if you have them. There is some tannin, so pair it with some protein. It's excellent with lamb, tapenade, and aged cheeses.
