Easkoot Cellars is named after Captain Alfred Derby Easkoot, who settled in Marin County in the 1850s and was its first land surveyor. Easkoot makes wines from cool, foggy sites in the Petaluma Gap. 'Solitude' is a Champagne-method sparkling wine from 95% chardonnay and 5% pinot blanc grown in the famed Devil’s Gulch Vineyard in Nicasio Valley. The primary fermentation was two-thirds in stainless steel tanks and one-third in used Austrian oak barrels. The wine then spent four years in bottle on the lees before disgorgement in September 2022. It has an expansive and expressive nose of yellow fruits, with great acidity and real complexity. This is excellent quality-price value for a serious California sparkling wine. Drink it with oysters from Tomales Bay or fried chicken.
