Partners-in-life Malia Myers and Melaney Schmidt started Landmass Wines in 2018 to make “energetic wines in the majestic Columbia River Gorge.” David recently visited Landmass and brought us this wine and report: “made from a majority of Willamette Valley pinot noir picked just before full ripeness so it retains some tart freshness along with typical subdued dark cherry notes and its subtle dusty earth element. The chardonnay adds a weightlessness and easy, open texture to the wine without adding any tropical notes, and the 10% tempranillo from a warmer site must provide the juicy red fruit that it finishes with. While the pinnacle of wine may be the expression of a singular site, it requires genius, or good luck, to create a wine more than the sum of its parts, and Landmass has done it here. Perfect for picnics, barbecues, and outdoor dining. Roasted chicken with herbs, turkey sandwiches.” Yes, you want to chill it! 25-30 minutes does the trick, but more doesn’t hurt.
