2020 Vincent Gaudry Sancerre - Le Tournebride
Regular price $38.00
Site & Vines: Marl, Kimmeridgian, and Silex soils.
Vinification & Elevage: Vinified and raised exclusively in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and bottled when it is ready, generally in the spring following the vintage.
Age-ability: 5 years
Notes: The largest production wine in his range, Gaudry uses fruit coming from all three soil types in the region, a surprising rarity, each contributing their unique qualities to the finished wine. From the high plateau caillottes and chalky soils south west of the village of Sancerre come wines which are highly perfumed with hallmark grapefruit and lime zest/citrus flavors of which Sauvignon Blanc is best known. From the gently sloping westward facing parcel of silex just north of Sancerre comes a wine that is mineral and smoky offering density on the palate and longevity in the bottle. And from the clay-limestone marl soils, otherwise known as terre blanches, south of Sury en Vaux, come wines which are more subtly fruited but long and plush on the palate, lending weight and tannin for ageability.
