2021 Luigi Tecce Irpinia Campi Taurasini - Satyricon

Regular price $55.00

In Stock: 10

Luigi Tecce took over his family’s vineyards in the Castelfranci subzone of Taurasi (Campania, 75 miles east of Naples) 20 years ago, Since then has risen to the top of this storied appellation, sometimes called “the Barolo of the South”. He works entirely naturally in the vineyard in the cellar, with nothing added and nothing taken away in the winemaking. (See the back label for a defiant list of what Luigi doesn’t do to the wine.) Irpinia Campi Taurasini is the more general appellation that includes Taurasi, with a shorter aging requirement. Satyricon is named after Petronius’s 1st century AD satire, which in turn references the satyrs, attendants of Dionysus/Bacchus and lovers of wine, music, dancing, and sex. Tecce’s Satyricon is his exuberant yet still deep younger-vine wine made from 20-year old vines. The wine is aged for at least two years in stainless steel and large, old barrels. It’s dark-fruited, dense, smoky, and wild, packed with minerality and layers of complexity. Drink it now with barbecued brisket or portobello mushroom steaks. It also will repay 5-20 years of aging.
