Carl Loewen is a highly-regarded family winery that started in 1803. Farming is practicing organic. Alte Reben = old vines; in this case 50-70 year-old vines in the Leiwener Maximin Klosterlay vineyard's slate soils. It's Trocken (dry) in this and most vintages; the Loewens choose not to put Trocken on the label because in some vintages fermentation stops naturally just a bit sweeter than Trocken. This is terrific dry Mosel riesling, with smoky minerality, great balance, complexity, and length. 12% alcohol.
