2020 Domaine des Huards Cour-Cheverny - Romorantin

Regular price $28.00

In Stock: 15

Cour-Cheverny is a tiny appellation - well under 100 hectares of vines - with a sneaky secret weapon: the grape variety romorantin. Cour-Cheverny is within but not to be confused with the appellation of Cheverny, which boasts 500+ hectares of sauvignon blanc, gamay, pinot noir, and a few other standard Loire varieties. Cour-Cheverny is 100% romorantin; Cheverny comes in all three colors, and the blanc is majority sauvignon blanc. If you like characterful, high-acid white wines, you’ll likely love romorantin. Domaine des Huards has been in the Gendrier family since 1846; 7th and 8th generation Michael and his son Alex are at the helm now. Their vineyards are certified both organic and biodynamic. 'Romo' comes from a mix of the Gendrier’s vineyards, fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. Bottle age often is advantageous for romorantin, as it helps tame the variety’s often-aggressive acidity and brings out complexity. That’s certainly the case here, with stone fruit and baked apples and a whiff of the distinctive TDN / goût de petrol aroma that is a signature of many rieslings and also present in some other white wines as they age. Drink it with oysters, sushi, or goats’ milk cheeses.
