Thanks to love and wine, Kurt Fuchs and Helene Fuchs-Steinklammer joined their two family wineries in 1989 to create Fuchs-Steinklammer, within the city limits of Vienna. Farming is certified organic. Gemischter Satz, meaning “mixed set”, describes a wine made from co-planted, co-harvested, and co-fermented grapes. It’s the historic wine of Vienna. 'Klippe' refers to ancient cliffs that once towered over the vineyards. The grape varieties here include welschriesling, grüner veltliner, riesling, and sauvignon blanc. The wine was aged in used French oak barrels and bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with minimal sulfur additions. It is delicately floral and lightly fruity, with loads of salty minerality and acidity (note the label design!). Like all Gemischter Satz, this one is plenty easy-to-drink, but it also has character and complexity, perhaps due to its coming from two vineyards on opposite sides of Vienna and with different soil types. Drink it with oysters, green papaya salad, or other Thai dishes.
