Oakland resident Terah Bajjalieh is a born-and-bred Californian who has made wine in France, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, and four regions in our own state. She created the Terah Wine Co. in 2020 in order to focus on making her own small-lot wines from organic and biodynamic vineyards. Her stylish, characterful wines have become a favorite in our shop.
Paicines Ranch Vineyard is part of a regenerative polycultural farm in San Benito County, between Hollister and Pinnacles. Vineyard manager Kelly Mulville developed a “tall vines” trellising system that permits sheep grazing even when the grapes are ripening. This system creates healthier soil and grapes with less work and fewer inputs in the vineyard, including much less water. Terah’s Grenache shows the variety’s classic cherry fruit with a spicy edge. It is by intention a lighter-weight (and lighter-hued) rendition - a wine of finesse rather than power. There is lots of aromatic complexity, an inviting delicacy, and just 12.5% alcohol. Drink it with grilled foods or cumin beef and green bean stir fry.
